Custom Orthotics & Gait Scan in West End, Brisbane

Pressure and movement analysis first, orthotics second — because an orthotic prescribed without measuring is a guess with an invoice attached.

Feet are where the whole chain starts. How your foot loads decides what your knee, hip and back have to absorb, and a foot that is doing the wrong thing several thousand times a day is often the reason a knee or an Achilles will not settle no matter what is done to it directly.

The scan comes first

Our gait scan measures pressure distribution and movement while you walk and run — not a static footprint. That is what tells us whether you actually need an orthotic, what it should correct, and whether the problem is the foot at all. Sometimes the answer is calf strength and a change of shoe, and we would rather say so.

Then the orthotic, if it is warranted

Custom orthotics are made to your measurements to optimise foot mechanics, take load off irritated structures and improve comfort through the day. They are a tool inside a rehabilitation plan, not a substitute for one — which is why they are prescribed here by the physiotherapist who is also treating you.

What it costs

The gait scan is charged at the clinician rate and custom orthotics are quoted from a starting price — both are on the pricing page. Many private health extras cover orthotics; HICAPS is on site, so you will see the rebate before you commit.

When a scan is worth it

Problems that often start at the foot

Plantar fasciitis

Heel pain that comes back every time you increase your walking or running. Often paired with shockwave therapy.

Achilles tendinopathy

Where load through the tendon is the issue and footwear is part of the load.

Shin splints

Medial tibial stress syndrome, common in runners increasing distance too quickly.

Knee pain in runners

Patellofemoral pain, where foot mechanics change what the kneecap has to tolerate.

Arthritic feet and knees

Redistributing load away from the parts that hurt, so walking stays possible.

Recurrent ankle sprains

Where the foot never fully recovered its control after the first one.
