Whiplash Treatment in West End, Brisbane

Neck pain after a car accident — and if you have a CTP claim, we can bill it directly.

Whiplash is a neck injury caused by rapid back-and-forth movement of the head, most often in a rear-end collision. It ranges from stiffness that settles in a fortnight to persistent pain and headaches. Early, active management is associated with better outcomes than rest and a collar.

What you are likely to notice

  • Neck pain and stiffness, often worse the day after than on the day
  • Headaches, usually starting at the base of the skull
  • Reduced neck movement, especially turning
  • Sometimes dizziness, jaw pain or pain into the shoulder blade

What usually causes it

  • Rear-end and side-impact collisions, including low-speed ones
  • Sporting collisions and falls
  • The injury is to muscle, joint and ligament together, which is why it does not behave like a simple strain

How we treat it at Forge

Early assessment, reassurance grounded in what we actually find, and a return to movement as soon as it is safe — because prolonged rest is associated with worse outcomes in whiplash specifically. Hands-on treatment for the joints and muscles, then loading for the deep neck and upper back.

How long it takes

Many cases settle over several weeks. A minority persist, and those respond to a structured program rather than to more passive treatment.

Questions

What people ask about this

Can you bill my CTP insurance?

Yes, once you have a claim number from the insurer. Until then you are welcome to pay privately — those sessions are typically reimbursed when the claim is approved. Call us and we will explain what you need.

Should I wear a collar?

Generally no. Collars were standard for decades and the evidence went the other way: keeping the neck moving within comfort produces better outcomes than immobilising it.

Why did it hurt more the next day?

That is typical of whiplash and does not mean it got worse. The inflammatory response peaks after the event, which is why the day after a crash is usually the worst one.

Not sure this is what you have? That is exactly what an assessment is for — and if it turns out to be something else, we will tell you.
