Conditions we treat

Neck Pain Treatment in West End, Brisbane

The complaint that a desk, a phone and a commute produce between them — and that responds to strength far better than to posture advice.

Neck pain usually involves the joints and muscles of the cervical spine rather than anything sinister. It frequently comes with headaches, and it is strongly associated with sustained positions rather than with any single ‘wrong’ posture.

What you are likely to notice

  • Ache or stiffness at the base of the neck and across the shoulders
  • Reduced turning, often worse to one side
  • Headaches that start at the back of the head
  • Occasionally referred pain into the arm

What usually causes it

  • Hours in one position — desk, driving, phone
  • Low neck and upper back strength relative to what is being asked of it
  • Poor sleep, stress and jaw clenching, which are genuine contributors
  • Whiplash after a motor vehicle accident

How we treat it at Forge

Hands-on treatment to restore movement and settle irritated joints, dry needling where muscle is a large part of the picture, and then loading for the deep neck and upper back muscles. Posture advice alone rarely holds; capacity does.

How long it takes

Simple neck pain often eases within a few sessions. Longstanding neck pain with headaches takes a structured program and reassessment.

Questions

What people ask about this

Is my posture the cause?

Less than you have been told. The research does not support a single correct posture, and people with excellent posture get neck pain too. What matters more is how long you hold any position and how much capacity your neck has for it.

Can physiotherapy help my headaches?

Often, when the headache is coming from the neck — typically felt at the back of the head and provoked by neck movement or sustained positions. Your physiotherapist will assess whether that pattern fits before promising anything.

What about whiplash after a car accident?

We treat whiplash, and if you have a CTP insurance claim we can bill it — you need a claim number from the insurer first.

Not sure this is what you have? That is exactly what an assessment is for — and if it turns out to be something else, we will tell you.
